BIRNS AWARDS DEBRA K. GEIST MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP TO
GRACE COULTER OF VENTURA HIGH SCHOOL
BIRNS, Inc., a manufacturer of high performance lights and connectors for the subsea and nuclear power markets, is proud to announce Grace Coulter as the winner of this year’s Debra K. Geist Memorial Scholarship. The Ventura High School student was honored at a recent ceremony at the company, where she received a scholarship award of $500 to be used toward her collegiate studies.
The late Debra Geist was BIRNS’ Purchasing Agent for many years, before her sudden and tragic passing. In her memory, the company launched an annual college scholarship program to encourage and recognize high school students in Ventura County with strong leadership potential, committed to the pursuit of excellence in a business career. Miss Coulter was California Legislature Assembly Student of the Month, is a member of the National Honor Society and was awarded the Engineering Challenge Award from Naval Surface Warfare Center, Port Hueneme. She is a founding member and President of the Ventura High chapter of The Young and Brave Club, dedicated to raising money for children with cancer and raising awareness on her school campus. She is also a founding member and Student Leader/Role Model of the Ventura High school Den Mentor’s Leadership Program, a group comprised of designated leaders for underclassmen selected by her school’s faculty to assist freshmen throughout the year.
