BIRNS Scholarship Winner

OXNARD, CA—BIRNS, Inc., an Oxnard manufacturer of high performance lights and connectors for the subsea and nuclear power markets, is proud to announce that Breana Chhay is the latest recipient of its annual Debra K. Geist Memorial Scholarship. Chhay is a senior at Buena high school and will be going on to the University of Southern California in the fall. She was honored at a recent ceremony at the company, where she received a scholarship award of $500 to be used toward college.

The company created the scholarship in honor of the late Debra Geist, former Purchasing Agent at BIRNS who passed away suddenly in 2013. The annual college scholarship program was introduced to encourage and recognize achievements of high school students in Ventura County with strong leadership potential. Chhay fits this description well, having served in numerous roles within Key Club, serving as President, Division Executive Assistant, and both Club and Division Treasurer. She is also a student representative for Buena’s School Site Council, where she voiced the opinions of her school community with 2,000+ students.

“Ms. Chhay’s achievements exemplify the hard work and tenacity the program was created to encourage,” says Eric Birns, President and CEO of BIRNS. “Her dedication to both academic and volunteer efforts demonstrate leadership and commitment to excellence, and we were thrilled to award her the scholarship.”
