MOORPARK HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT AWARDED BIRNS, INC. DEBORAH K. GEIST MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Oxnard, CA—BIRNS, Inc., an Oxnard, CA-based manufacturer of unique lines of high performance lights and connectors for nuclear and marine markets, awarded the first annual Deborah K. Geist Memorial scholarship to Miss Lindsey Footitt of Moorpark High School. At a recent ceremony at the company Footitt received a certificate and an award of $500 to be used toward her collegiate studies.
The late Deborah Geist was BIRNS’ Purchasing Agent for many years, before her sudden and tragic passing last year. Subsequently, the company launched an annual college scholarship in her memory to encourage and recognize high school students in Ventura County with exceptional leadership potential, committed to the pursuit of excellence in a business career.
Footitt submitted an outstanding application outlining her career and educational goals, along with her community involvement. She is an AP scholar graduating with honors this year, and applying to USC, UCLA, Stanford, Berkeley, and NYU for attendance in the fall. She was nominated for the Westpoint Leadership Award, and is a member of the National Honor Society and Spanish National Honor Society. Footitt is also a Future Business Leaders of America member, was a Relay for Life Team Captain and Youth Chair, and has volunteered at the Moorpark Boys and Girls Club helping students with their studies.
