BIRNS, Inc., an Oxnard manufacturer of high-performance lights and connectors for the subsea and nuclear power markets is proud to announce the recipients of its 2026 scholarship program. BIRNS recognized four outstanding students from Ventura County for their leadership, achievements, and future potential.
Each year, BIRNS awards scholarships to students who demonstrate strong leadership, academic achievement and a commitment to their communities.
Debra K. Geist Scholarship
Established in 2013, this scholarship program was created in honor of the company’s late Purchasing Agent. It encourages and recognizes high school students in Ventura County who demonstrate strong leadership potential.
Kassandra Ruvalcaba Ortiz, a graduate from Hueneme High School, was selected as this year’s recipient. She will be attending UC Davis in the Fall to pursue her undergraduate degree.
93033 Scholarship
This program was created to support Ventura County high school seniors residing in the 93033 area code who demonstrate leadership potential and academic achievement, and was awarded to Natalie Mata, from Channel Islands High School. She will attend Cal Poly San Luis Obispo to pursue her Bachelor’s in Environmental Engineering.
BIRNS Employee & Family Scholarship
The BIRNS Employee & Family Scholarship recognizes members of the BIRNS team and/or their immediate family members who demonstrate exceptional leadership potential and achievement. This year scholars were two employees, Irene Ramirez, Oil-Filled Wire Processing Technician, and Daniella Campuzano, HR/Marketing Coordinator. Ramirez is attending the International College of California to pursue a professional certificate in Microsoft Suite Applications and business programs. Campuzano is attending the University of California State, Long Beach to pursue her Masters in Business Administration.
