BIRNS Wins Emergency Lighting Fixture Contract with Taiwan Power Company
Oxnard, CA—BIRNS, Inc., an ISO 9001:2008 certified global leader in the design and manufacturing of high performance lights for demanding nuclear applications, announces a new lighting contract for Taiwan Power Company’s Department of Nuclear and Fossil Power Projects. BIRNS will supply more than 900 BIRNS Emergency Lighting Fixtures™ (ELFs) for the new builds of Lungmen Nuclear Power Project Units 1 & 2 in Taipei, Taiwan, featuring two new main 1350MW advanced boiling water reactors. The BIRNS ELFs are brilliant, incandescent lighting solutions that are precision engineered for use inside primary nuclear containment.
The advanced lighting systems provide more than eight hours of automatic emergency illumination in case of SBO or loss of AC power, and are seismically qualified per IEEE-344—capable of withstanding any major earthquake. The units have integral sealed rechargeable batteries and solid-state charging circuitry, with a mirror-finish, stainless steel construction impervious to humidity, acids, and other corrosives. The BIRNS ELFs are designed in accordance with UL 924, ‟Emergency Lighting Equipment” and NFPA 70, ‟National Electrical Code”.
