High Performance Miniature Underwater Fiber Optic Connector Reliably Transmits Vast Data Streams
OXNARD, CA – BIRNS, Inc., global leader in high performance connectors, penetrators, cable assemblies and lights for deep submergence applications, has added a new level of performance to its popular BIRNS Millennium™ metal shell connector series. The ultra-compact BIRNS Millennium 3F connector provides high bandwidth connectivity in a low profile package. The BIRNS 3F is perfect for small Remote Operated Vehicles (ROVs) with telemetry capabilities, towed or untowed data acquisition devices or high definition underwater visual applications.
This extremely robust system is compatible with both single and multi-mode optical cables, and is the most advanced connector of its type − resistant to mechanical damage and delivering high bandwidth data with negligible signal degradation. It’s specially engineered for applications requiring long cables, thanks to its precision optical alignment and BIRNS’ sophisticated cable termination. The BIRNS Millennium 3F has been rigorously tested by the company’s expert ETA-I certified optical technicians, with ≤.3dB of optical loss, and reliably withstands open-face hydrostatic pressure testing.
BIRNS designed its Millennium series with industry-leading, exclusive features, like a 15 degree lead-in angle construction for its standard dual O-ring longevity and reliability. Plus, the exclusive BIRNS anti-rotation key slot ensures that the system will remain in place during in-use vibration, maintenance or routine coupling and uncoupling.
The series is created to provide the ultimate in performance in highly specialized applications, yet can be used by laymen without comprehensive fiber-optic training, and features positive stainless steel stops to prevent accidental over tightening, and square ‘Acme’ threads to further resist mechanical impact damage.
